You don't know what to do after school or you don't have a school leaving certificate?
We can advise you during school consultation hours or at your local Employment Agency:
- on suitable careers or study places for you
- on secondary schools, to acquire the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences or the Abitur
- on bridging opportunities in the form of voluntary services
If you have not yet found a place for your vocational training after leaving general education (secondary school, grammar school or special school), we will help you prepare for this.
What's available?
Vocational preparation year (Berufsvorbereitungsjahr, BVJ)
- you are under 18 years old and do not have a school leaving certificate
- you will be taught skills in two occupational fields in preparation for vocational training
- you fulfil your compulsory education
- you obtain your lower secondary school leaving certificate (‘Hauptschulabschluss’)
Basic vocational training year (Berufsgrundbildungsjahr, BGJ)
- You are taught the practical and theoretical contents of a vocational field (e.g. vehicle technology, retail, administration)
- can be credited to you as the first year of a subsequent vocational training programme
Entry qualification (Einstiegsqualifizierung, EQ)
- you work in a company for 6-12 months and prepare for your vocational training
- you acquire basic knowledge for your training occupation
- you earn a fixed amount per month and are covered by social insurance
- can be credited to you for a subsequent vocational training programme
Vocational preparation measure
- you can get to know different professions and try out what suits you best
- you do work placements and also receive instruction in subjects such as German and maths
- you can obtain your lower secondary school leaving certificate (‘Hauptschulabschluss’)
Production schools and youth workshops
- through practical work you get to know occupational areas
- working and learning are interlinked
- you can obtain your lower secondary school leaving certificate (‘Hauptschulabschluss’)
- you receive an expense allowance
Voluntary services
- you work in a public welfare-oriented institution
- you receive pocket money for your commitment
- you can gain your first practical insights and experience of working life.
